I was asked last year to create a design that show creative messy thought. I wondered what they were thinking about when they described the creative thought process because I sure didn't relate. To me creative thought is not messy, it can lead you down side trails and look messy to the untrained eye. I guess, if you're not a "Creative" it all looks like a mystery. So I think, well brain matter is soft and messy at first. But the minute thought gets organized into action, the messy part disappears. There is logic, direction and a point of being. The design chosen was everything the client said they didn't want, but they liked anyway. It was an interesting process to go through. It also gave me insight into how little people understand about being creative and about the process to a completed design.
In Design 108, it was interesting to learn about cultivating creativity and problem solving. It was the first time I could put into words what being creative was all about. Being able to draw or paint means nothing if you can't direct it. Being able to think means nothing if you can focus it on the task at hand. So I posted this picture by J.D. Hillberry. Aside from the beauty of the piece, I think it represents what people think when they watch creative people. They are curious and only get a peak of what is going on inside the artist. I would not call this a graphic art piece. It is not selling, marketing a target audience or providing a service. But it's beautiful for the sake of every creative person out there who has days that feel like this.
